Manchester & Heywood

Scenic Manchester? Really! Here's proof. We didn't actually see this (the Town Hall), but isn't it nice?

I think I saw this from a car window from a distance. It's Barbirolli Square.

Busy downtown shopping area.

More of the large pedestrian-only downtown area.

Turn to the left from the last picture, and you get this. St. Anne's.

Around the back side of St. Anne's are some old tombs.

A strange fountain. Not sure if the foam is part of the intended effect or some sort of pollution. Artist's plan, we hope.

The fountain with some people who happened to be around.

The interior of the largest pub we visited, converted from an old theater. It was called something like "Moon under the Water".

A customer at the pub.

More customers.

Another pub-goer.

In the coffee shop of the Marks & Spence store.

More of the coffee shop.

Heywood

Karen at her mother's house, enjoying a home cooked meal.

Karen's plate, including the English delicacy of potato chips on bread.

Two Yanks taking in the English culture.

And how many pints of Guinness have you had?

Two locals and an Aussie at the Pig & Whistle.

Karen engaging in one of her favorite activities.

The host of Quiz Night.

Uh-oh! He saw us taking pictures.

The ice cream truck came around every afternoon, rain or shine, no matter the weather. This fascinated Danette.
