Haleakala

Haleakala is a fairly tall mountain,
and you can drive right to the top.

There's an observatory atop Haleakala
it's military, so no visitors
(but nobody stopped up from taking this photo)

This is a famous place where you can sometimes
see your shadow on the clouds --
unless the weather does this.

As we drove down from the top,
we saw this big fog bank blowing in.

Haleakala has not erupted in a long time.
This is looking down into the crater.

This plant called "Silver Sword" grows only on Haleakala,
and only blooms after growing for 50 years.
